Once again, you’ve made history. The months of April, May and June are the three highest volume months in our history. Congratulations! What a way to celebrate our 30th anniversary. In the first quarter we set volume point growth records and we followed that performance with even stronger results in the second quarter. Equally impressive is that some markets we’ve been in the longest are experiencing double-digit volume point growth. The U.S., Herbalife’s first market, increased 22 percent compared to the second quarter last year; Mexico, which opened 20 years ago, grew by 11 percent; and Korea, open almost 15 years, was up 92 percent.
Your company is stronger than ever. We are in the enviable position of being able to support our Distributors with significant new investments in infrastructure, technology and our Herbalife Decade “seed to feed” strategy while also returning value to our shareholders/owners.
Herbalife is one of the best-positioned companies in the world today. Consumer awareness of the obesity epidemic, coupled with the importance for good nutrition, not only in the U.S. but around the world, has never been greater. With almost 63 percent of our products in the weight-management category, this makes our products more relevant than they have ever been before.
You and your organizations continue to build sustainable businesses with long-term customers who are consuming our products on a daily basis. This focus on daily consumption, combined with recent changes in our marketing plan, is allowing more people to access the business opportunity than ever before; is attracting more consumers and Distributors to Herbalife than at any time in our history; and is enabling more Distributors to be successful with Herbalife. We have more Distributors moving up the marketing plan, committing to growing successful businesses, and we are retaining them longer. Our stories of success are phenomenal.
Herbalife is more visible and better recognized than ever before. Together with corporate and marketing fund support, as well as Distributors’ individual efforts, we sponsor over 150 teams, athletes and events worldwide, including the LA Galaxy, Pumas, Santos, Valencia, FC Schalke, RC Strasbourg and the AYSO. Our June sponsorship announcement of FC Barcelona and personal sponsorship of soccer phenomenon Leo Messi brought us global recognition and most importantly, tremendous confidence and pride among our Distributors. This week, Leo Messi played football with children from our South Korea Casa Herbalife programs while media from around the world covered the event.*
It’s the competitive advantage we have in these areas - great products, the potential for individuals to build a successful business and our strengthening brand and image – that provide us the confidence to believe we will continue to report strong results throughout this year.
